In collaboration with Gallup, Kidsave’s EMBRACE project is a national initiative that uncovers gaps within the foster care system. EMBRACE uses research as a catalyst for change to address overrepresentation of Black children in foster care in the United States.

KIDSAVE | GALLUP STUDY

Kidsave collaborated with Gallup on a national study titled: Americans’ Views of U.S. Foster Care: Elevating Black Americans’ Perspectives & Experiences. From this we can understand the barriers for families that want to mentor or adopt Black children in foster care and what perceptions may be preventing Black families from taking the first step in engaging with the foster care system. We plan to use this data as a catalyst for improving outcomes for Black youth in foster care, and ultimately all children in foster care.

LIVED EXPERIENCE FINDINGS

Kidsave conducted an analysis of 50 interviews of Black adults from the Kidsave-Gallup study. Responses were analyzed by their relationships with and proximity to the foster care system. This data focuses on people with lived experience and the roles of racism and community.

TAKING A CLOSER LOOK

Kidsave conducted four secondary analyses from the Kidsave-Gallup study. We dove in deeper to uncover data trends from two identity groups: LGBT and Hispanic, plus two geographic locations: California and Texas. Kidsave works to provide solutions and ultimately improve outcomes for youth in foster care.
