Kidsave is sincerely grateful to the youth and Kyla Jones at Jack and Jill of America, Inc. for the generous donation of 30 Crown Care Kits for our Weekend Miracles kids. These kits will support Black children in foster care by affirming their identity, value, and right to embrace who they are with confidence. Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a national organization dedicated to nurturing leadership, service and cultural awareness among African American children through educational, social and civic activities.
Black kids in foster care often face discrimination or lack of access to culturally appropriate care. These kits help change that by providing essential hair and self-care items which help to support natural and protective styles. Access to these products aligns with the efforts of the CROWN Act, which works to end race-based hair discrimination and protect self-expression.
EMBRACE helps to remove barriers that make it harder for Black, Latino/a, and LGBTQ+ youth in foster care to find mentors, foster families, and adoptive families. We work to help young people feel safe, supported and proud of who they are, which is possible with donations such as these Crown Care Kits.
We are truly thankful to Jack and Jill of America, Inc. for supporting our kids. The kits will be distributed to youth in our Weekend Miracles programs in Los Angeles, CA, Houston, Texas and Virginia. Together, these Crown Care Kits affirm a child’s sense of self by sending a powerful message: you are valued exactly as you are, and your identity matters. They also equip youth with the tools to present themselves with confidence, whether preparing for school, interviews, or new opportunities. Crown Care Kits are a meaningful way to say: we believe in you, we support you, and you are worth investing in.
